Concerto grosso

TSO Baroque Band

The characteristically energetic form that is the concerto grosso for strings, spread throughout Europe in the wake of Corelli, and became one of the most popular forms of orchestral music in the beginning of the Eighteenth Century. Vivaldi, Händel, and the Swedish composer Roman, made some of their most memorable works of instrumental music in this form. The British violinist, Walter Reiter, leader of ensembles such as the Gabrieli Consort and Les Arts Florissants, will take a selection of baroque music performers from the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra through some of the major works of baroque music for string players.

Music by Corelli, Muffat, Rebel and others
