«Democracy’s Finest Hour? The Battle of Salamis – 2500 Years On»
Paul Cartledge, A. G. Leventis emeritus Professor of Greek Culture at the University of Cambridge gives the Breakspear Lecture 2020 under the title of “Democracy’s finest hour? The battle of Salamis 2,500 years on”. As the author of Democracy: A Life and numerous books on Athens and Sparta, Professor Cartledge is an outstanding expert on Ancient Greece and its political legacy and will as such offer fresh perspectives on the rise of democracy against the backdrop of war, represented by one of the most famous sea battles in history. The lecture is held in English.
