Opera and Myth

Barokkfest goes back to the roots of opera, and the first highlights in opera-history!

Join us on a journey through the fabulous opera music from the time of Monteverdi, the first great opera composer. Experience the most beautiful melodies Monteverdi wrote for the myths of Orpheus, or for the story of the unfortunate Ulysses’ homeward journey. In the center stands the Belgian tenor Jan van Elsacker, the Norwegian baritone Håvard Stensvold and a group of musicians handpicked by Barokkfest. Together they take the audience on a journey through the wonderful musical treasures from Italy in the 17th century. When the great composers of the 17th century created the opera genre, they aimed to create a drama as magnificent as the famous theaters of antiquity. Ancient myth came to be central to much of the opera music they wrote.

Enjoy the beautiful melodies and the storytelling music, whether it is told through the love seekers Orfeo or the ruler of the underworld, Pluto.
